Joe Cortez to referee Mayweather-Ortiz fight

Joe CortezThe athletic commission has officially announced Joe Cortez as the officiating referee of the much awaited Mayweather vs Ortiz World Welterweight championships on September 17, 2011 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas, Nevada. (photo credit to BoxRec.com)

According to news, Cortez was the same man who worked on Floyd Mayweather Jr. 2007 bout versus Ricky Hatton. Hatton has some problem fighting toe to toe because of Joe's way of breaking up fighters immediately after seeing them so close. The recent fight where Joe Cortez was the referee on Khan vs Maidana rumble wherein the same breaking up has lead Maidana's defeat.

This is a for sure bad thing to Victor Ortiz. He can't do some work on the inside because of the immediate reaction of the third man in action. Only jabs can't surprise the undefeated six-time world champion. What would Ortiz and his trainer do on their game plan?

Fight fans can watch Mayweather vs Ortiz live on HBO PPV, TV on-time/delayed broadcast and via online paid/free sites. Don't miss the greatest boxing-match between a veteran pugilists against and a rising boxing superstar. Who will emerge victorious?
